A small gift that inspired big changes!

I have a knack for drinking my coffee with a straw and was surprised with these stainless steel straws from @proteinhuttt. After doing some reading and research, I'm so excited to share what I've learnt about them.

Lately I've been going on about hormonal imbalances and how I think I might have been experiencing the effects of Oestrogen Dominance over the past year. Using plastic straws exposes us to many harmful chemicals that may leech into our bodies through direct contact, which affect our bodies in ways we wouldn't even realise. Not to mention, it enables the buildup of plastic waste which is severely harmful to the environment!

I remember seeing warnings on plastic Tupperware in the grocery store stating that the item either "contains BPA" or is "BPA free". I remember thinking this isn't something that would affect me, so I'm not going to be bothered. But as I started diving deeper into research about Oestrogen Dominance and the causes and symptoms, I kept coming across the acronym BPA.

Bisphenol A (aka BPA) is one of those chemicals that is notorious for causing hormone imbalances in the body. This is a chemical found in hard plastics that are common in everyday use. However, research shows that BPA mimics the activity of hormones, mainly Oestrogen, and interfere with these hormones' production, transport, and function, and even possibly destroy the body's natural hormones. Exposure to this chemical can cause fertility problems, male impotence and even heart disease. Thats really intense!

There are many other types of materials we can use to replace plastics in our everyday lives, like these metal straws, pyrex containers, metal cutlery, wooden cutlery, and the list goes on. I think this is an inspiring step towards a more Eco Friendly lifestyle. Since getting the straws, I don't pick up plastic straws anywhere that I purchase a drink. It really encourages me to reconsider picking up every piece of plastic I waste or that can turn into toxic waste and harm our planet. It has also encouraged me to read labels and research the things I don't understand, rather than assuming these things won't affect me.

Maybe I'm being too extra about this, but I'm thrilled that I am learning and taking action, however small they might be.

Check out Protein Hut TT for these cute and fun metal straws. They even come with a cleaning tool for efficient cleaning, and a handy dandy carrying pouch so you can just drop them in your bag or even in the glove compartment and take them everywhere you go!

This is not what we expected at the beginning of this year, is it? I spent the first day of 2020 on the beach surrounded by my friends....
