My big chop

2018 was the year that I tried so many new things with my hair. I’v always wanted to be a blonde babe, so I took it into my own hands and got my bleaching on. I absolutely love the colour outcome, but I am not so much in love with the state of my curls after the fact. I guess bleaching on top of a bad Keratin treatment equals bye-bye curls.

You can see my natural curls at the roots, but the rest of my hair doesn't curl much at all :(
Before the CHOP

Pro tip guys, if you’re getting a treatment that may be permanent or require extra care or expertise, get it done by a professional… Don’t cheap out on yourself. With these things, quality is always better than bargain. Even if you want to support a friend, make sure the quality of the service is good, because sis! If that friend ruins your hair, that friendship gon' be over! Anyways, besides the fact than I miss my curls and having healthy hair, I am just ready for something new. I have this deep burning desire to be inspired and ever so often I catch a vibe to just do something spontaneous, challenge myself and my self confidence. I want to be able to love myself in all phases of life, and all phases of looks. So this inspired the BIG CHOP! Honestly just remembering how much I loved the way my natural curls feel when they are healthy and how good I feel when I make the effort to take care of myself and my hair is incentive to commit to this journey. This is also going to be the first time I would be treating with my natural hair on my own, shockingly! So I really hope that I can figure things out on the way. I am so excited to do this because I’m not doing this to get away from anything in particular (except for split ends and non-existent curls), but mainly because I’m chasing self improvement.

I am committing to self improvement. I really hope that throughout this journey I can inspire others to take the necessary steps towards a greater self love and acceptance. I would love the same fire I feel inside me to be better and do better to spread to as many people as possible, because you all deserve to feel this same self love and this same kind of happiness.

My new haircut!

I don't feel like I've ever been defined by my hair or my curls in particular, but rather I've avoided really embracing my natural hair and learning how to treat it. If going totally natural helps me love myself more, that's definitely what I'm aiming for.

Now I'm having fun playing around with styling my hair and I'm also trying out a bunch of new products to assist with growth and curl definition. (Reviews definitely underway!) ;)

And so the hair journey begins.
